Birth Photography
We actively curate photographs for use in promoting the scope of practice and benefits of midwifery in the province of Alberta through our websites (external and internal), print, social media and other communications channels. We invite all Alberta photographers to submit a collection of images for consideration.
Photo Submissions
Since 1986, the Alberta Association of Midwives (AAM) has been the professional body that represents and advocates for a passionate community of midwives and the practice of midwifery in Alberta. Registered midwives deliver high-quality, safe, and cost-effective maternity care that aligns with the Canadian Model of Midwifery Care. The AAM’s mission is to promote the growth and sustainability of midwives and midwifery services. There are approximately 150 Alberta midwives attending almost 8% of births each year.
The AAM is curating photographs for use in promoting the scope of practice and benefits of midwifery in Alberta through its websites (external and internal), print, social media and other communications channels. We invite all Alberta photographers to submit a collection of images for publication.
Technical requirements:
Please submit an online gallery of possible images for selection of photographs to membership@alberta-midwives.ca. An honouraria of $450 for a three-year license will be provided for each photograph used. represents $150 per image per year with $100 intended for the photographer and $50 intended for the respective client.
1. Images representing midwives at work in all settings (clinic, home, birth centre or hospital) and their clients (parents, babies and other family members).
2. Raw image files are preferred. Alternatively, images must be in jpeg format, 300 dpi, at least 2,000 pixels wide, and without watermarks.
3. If your photographs are accepted, you will be asked to enter into a three (3) year non-exclusive Licensing Agreement that confirms that you have the necessary rights and authority to enter into a Licensing Agreement for each image, that our use of the photographs will not infringe on any copyright, moral right, trademark or other intellectual property right, and that all of the people in the photograph have consented to the use of the photograph.
4. Photo credit will appear on each image used on our website.
5. Contact information including name, address, telephone, email and legal name to be used in the Licensing Agreement.
Images will be chosen based on the calibre of the photos, the depiction of midwives, diversity of people in the photos, a range of birth settings, and the overall impact and presentation of the photos.
6. Deadline for submissions is March 30, 2022.
