What is a Midwife?

Honouring your body, your birth, your choices

Registered midwives are health care professionals who provide expert primary care to you and your baby during pregnancy, labour, birth and 6-weeks postpartum.

The Canadian midwifery model of care is based on four core principles: continuity of care, informed choice, evidence-based practice and choice of birth setting.

“I've had nothing but wonderful experiences with my midwives in Edmonton! 3 lovely, empowering home births later and I feel confident, proud of myself, and grateful for excellent, reassuring midwives.”
